Indoor Air Quality for Southern Illinois
The quality of the air in your home is as important to your family’s health as the temperature and humidity are to their comfort. Headquartered in Murphysboro, IL, Heartland Heating & Air Conditioning supplies Southern Illinois homeowners with a variety of indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions such as humidifiers and dehumidifiers, air filters (electronic and traditional), carbon monoxide alarms, ventilators and ultraviolet germicidal lamps.
Dehumidifiers & Humidifiers
The most often overlooked aspect of home climate comfort is the humidity level. In the summer the humidity can make it feel like you’re living in the jungle and during the winter super dry air can cause headaches, nosebleeds and other not-so-fun conditions for your family. If your home suffers from improper humidity levels we can help find the perfect equipment option for you.
Carrier® air purifiers are state-of-the-art systems that trap and kill bacteria, viruses, mold spores, allergens and other pollutants in the conditioned air—and keep them out of the air your family breathes. Carrier’s Captures and Kills™ technology is unforgiving when it comes to airborne pathogens, circulating and re-purifying the air in your home up to 8 times an hour.
RGF Environmental offers a full line of products designed to clean the air in your home. Their top product, the REME Halo, utilizes both an active and passive effect to reduce airborne particulates, destroy pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, fungi/mold, and allergens, as well as reduce lingering odors. Install once and treat the air in your home, maintenance-free, for years to come.
A staple in any climate-controlled home, the air filter is your first line of defense against pollutants and excessive dust. Traditional filters act as a screen, catching particles as they pass through your ducts, before they are released back into the air of your home. Electrostatic filters charge the unwanted particles in the air, so when they come close to the filter, which has an opposite charge, they are attracted like magnets. This provides your system with an even more effective means of cleaning the air in your home.
Carbon Monoxide Alarms
A modern danger in today’s homes is carbon monoxide (CO). Colorless, tasteless and odorless, CO is pretty much undetectable by humans without purpose-built gear. We can provide that gear to help protect your family. Using a Carrier CO alarm, you can monitor the current CO level in your home on a large, easy-to-read digital display. When dangerous levels of CO are present, a loud, audible alarm alerts you and your family automatically.
Modern homes are built much more efficiently than older ones. For the most part this is a good thing – there is much less temperature loss, meaning lower energy bills. Sometimes the home can end up being too “tight” though. There are cases when the best thing we can do for a home is bring in fresh air from the outside, and we do that with ventilators. A ventilator is a means by which we can control the amount of air coming in to your home using a motorized “door” that only opens when your systems needs it.
Ultraviolet Germicidal Lamps
Traditional filters will capture most of the pollutants in your air, but some dangers are too small for them to handle. Carrier’s ultraviolet germicidal lamps actively destroy many pollutants that may find their way into your climate system. Eliminating these baddies does more than help improve your air quality, it increases your system performance as well.
Global Plasma Solution
The most recent addition to our indoor air quality products, Global Plasma Solutions’ GPS-2400 uses a plasma system to aid your filtration system in capturing dust, dander, and other particulates in the air. The GPS-2400’s bi-polar ionization causes fine particles in the air to cluster together, capturing airborne particulates and contaminates while increasing the effectiveness of your current filtration system. With a simple installation and no replacement or maintenance parts required, it’s a highly effective long-term solution.
Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) is a standard measure of filtration efficiency designed in 1987 by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. In basic terms, a higher MERV rating means better filtration. Technically, the higher the MERV, the smaller the particles the filter will catch and prevent from circulating back into your home. For reference we’ve included typical MERV rating applications in a table below.
|MERV||Min. particle size||Typical controlled contaminant||Typical Application|
|1-4||> 10.0 μm||Pollen, dust mites, cockroach debris, sanding dust, spray paint dust, textile fibers, carpet fibers||Residential window AC units|
|5-8||10.0 - 3.0 μm||Mold, spores, dust mite debris, cat and dog dander, hair spray, fabric protector, dusting aids, pudding mix||Better residential, general commercial, industrial workspaces|
|9-12||3.0-0.3 μm||Legionella, Humidifier dust, Lead dust, Milled flour, Auto emission particulates, Nebulizer droplets||Superior residential, better commercial, hospital laboratories|
|13-16||1.0-0.3 μm||Bacteria, droplet nuclei (sneeze), cooking oil, most smoke and insecticide dust, most face powder, most paint pigments||Hospital & general surgery|
|17-20||< 0.3 μm||Virus, carbon dust, sea salt, smoke||Electronics & pharmaceutical manufacturing cleanroom|
